In the early morning sparkle,
\nI heard her song while I worked among the turnips
\nWhile each bit of dirt clung to fingers
\nAnd weeds were moved to give room.<\/p>\n
On my knees next to the water trough
\nI saw her dress, white gossamer flowered thing,
\nCross my vision through the spray and splash
\nI made<\/p>\n
Heard her song drift through each part of home.
\nSmelt the scent of her legs telling of the heat of the coming day
\nI heard her drift to the hills<\/p>\n
And from the ridge,
\nWhile I brushed the roan mare,
\nFelt my muscles tense and work and sweat
\nAnd begin to ache for her,<\/p>\n
I sensed her top the hill, she moved and slipped,
\nAway from me.<\/p>\n
The day, her day, slipped past with each stroke of the brush,
\nthis thing we call life,
\nCalling her.<\/p>\n
Til slowly sinking
\ninto the supporting weight of the beast
\nIn front of me, to the pony of my dreams,
\nLegs finally too tired,<\/p>\n
Tears too.<\/p>\n
I wrapped my arms around her, felt the soft strength and
\nPatient heart next to me,
\nWith every beat of a great heart,
\nWith every sunrise,
\nAnd every spinning planet,
\nMoving and dancing
\nAway.<\/p>\n
To the Ridge where my spirit still goes,
\nCome night, come a festival day,
\nTo dance with her and them and those<\/p>\n
Hearts of mine,
\nAlways calls<\/p>\n
